GCPF: A First-of-Its-Kind Impact Report for a New Model of Climate Finance
Change Vision
Since its inception, the Global Climate Partnership Fund, also known as GCPF, has focused on accelerating the transition to a low-carbon future through a distinctive, partner-first model. Rather than funding individual projects, GCPF empowers local financial institutions in emerging markets to build internal climate capacity, align portfolios with sustainability goals, and unlock long-term capital for climate-positive investments.
This approach has generated measurable outcomes — 6.3 million tonnes of CO₂ reductions since the Fund’s launch, for example — but the broader ambition is structural. As Board Chair Carolin Gassner notes in the 2023–24 Impact Report, “besides the quantitative impacts generated, the Fund also aims to contribute to systemic change through its close handholding approach and the technical support provided to its partners.” What GCPF needed was a way to communicate not just the numbers, but the strategy. Not just the impact, but the method behind it.
Action
Måndag was brought in to support that reframing. Together with the Fund’s teams, we helped conceptualise and deliver the 2023–24 Impact Report — the first to articulate GCPF’s model not simply as a financial mechanism, but as a long-term, trust-based partnership strategy.
To do this well, we started by listening. Over the course of several months, we travelled with GCPF to meet partner institutions in places like Tbilisi, Ulaanbaatar and Quito. These conversations shaped the structure, tone and content of the report itself, informing how the Fund now tells its story: less institutional, more grounded; less centralised, more collaborative. The resulting report reflects this shift — in both form and function. The printed version lays out GCPF’s performance and partner stories in a clear, integrated way. The digital version (impact.gcpf.lu) expands that reach, incorporating short films and interactive visualisations that speak to a broader audience. Måndag led the strategy, editorial direction, content development and design — from raw material to finished product.
Impact
The 2023–24 Impact Report is more than a publication. It’s a platform. A new model of impact communication that balances rigour with accessibility, and performance data with human narrative.
It tells the story of how GCPF’s partner banks are shaping local ecosystems of change — from financing energy-efficient greenhouses in Mongolia to accelerating electric mobility in Nepal and deploying secure hydropower in Ecuador. It highlights how capacity-building, peer-learning, and tailored technical assistance are not afterthoughts, but central to impact delivery. Strategically, the report marks GCPF’s evolution. It signals the Fund’s readiness to expand its mandate — from climate mitigation to adaptation — while maintaining the same commitment to local ownership and institutional strengthening.
At its core, the report reflects a belief that impact isn’t just what you count. It’s how you work; how you build something that lasts. Hand in hand, side by side.
