Dubai Cares: Setting out rules for human dignity in storytelling

A MOVEMENT TO CREATE AN INTERNATIONAL AND ETHICAL FOUNDATION FOR STORYTELLING

Globally, there is a growing need for the rules of the game in storytelling. Many of the stories we nowadays consume lack authenticity, transparency, or are driven by ulterior motives which serve a predetermined narrative. These practices should no longer be acceptable, especially given the impact storytelling has on international development, humanitarian aid and philanthropy and most importantly human dignity.

Dubai Cares is a UAE-based global philanthropic organization, a member of the United Nations Department of Global Communications and a registered non-government organization under IACAD. The organization is playing a key role in helping achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, which aims to ensure inclusive and quality education for all and promote lifelong learning by 2030.

Now Dubai Cares is looking to build a network of journalists, storytellers and photographers to share the principles of ethical journalism. The 10 Principles of Dignified Storytelling have been put together by a diverse group of stakeholders through a consultative process. These principles are the foundation for the Dignified Storytelling pledge and also guide the Dignified Storytelling Handbook. Måndag helped Dubai Cares in the branding and campaign building.
