Is there snow in 2050?
Winter sports enthusiasts have witnessed, in the past few years, just how unpredictable winter weather can be. More often Winters have been almost without any snow at all. Snowless winters are not only an annoyance to skiers and snowboarders, they affect the entire multimillion euro winter sports industry. Climate change is making things worse. If we don’t start drastically reducing greenhouse gas emissions, we’ll see shorter winter seasons. Skiing, as we know it is on borrowed time. It is estimated that hundreds of European resorts will be out of business by 2050 due to lack of snow caused by climate change.
Winter sports are a beloved hobby to Finns: over a million Finns list skiing, snowboarding or telemark as their hobby. Now it’s time to engage and mobilise the Finnish winter sports community and industry to join forces and fight against climate change. Together we can protect our winters!
Protect Our Winters Finland is a part of an international Protect Our Winters movement that aims at engaging and mobilising the winter sports community to lead the fight against climate change. Join us!
